Description
The Kiev 4 25mm rangefinder camera with a built-in Selenium light meter. These cameras had an excellent basic design, taken directly from the German Contax rangefinders, which are classics, but the Russians, in their eagerness to mass-produce these allowed the quality standards to slip. In this camera, from the 1970s, one or more cogs in the wind-on mechanism have been stripped making it useless - which is rather a shame as it has a nice, accurate light meter and the Jupiter 8 lens is reputed to be a good performer.
This photo was shot using a Pentacon Six medium format camera, a type that was designed in 1955, and Fomapan 200 black and white film. The quality is not perfect but I believe it meets the professional standards expected in the era these cameras were made, which was the objective of the project.
