Description
Reputedly built in 1802, but possibly dating from the 17th century, the Markellos Tower in Aegina Town was the first centre of Government for Greece after the independece war of 1821. From 1826 to 1829 it was the headquarters of the Kapodistrias government and housed the ministers' offices. It was later used as the national treasury of Greece.
