Description
An ancient olive fights for survival with secondary trunks rising from its shattered trunk. Olives can survive thousands of years, usually with their trunks splitting to give rise to sibling trees, a process reckoned to take at least 300 years. This tree, near the Roman era sanctuary to the god of healing at Lissos, in south Crete, Greece, has an unusual shape. Roman buildings are visible on the hill to the left of the tree.
